Terms of Use

Last updated

Please read these terms carefully. They explain the rules for using The Bare Recipes, how Premium subscriptions and billing work, and the limits on our responsibility.

1. Agreeing to these terms

These Terms of Use are an agreement between you and The Bare Recipes ("we", "us") covering your use of The Bare Recipes website and its features. By creating an account, or by using The Bare Recipes at all, you agree to these terms and to our Privacy Policy. If you don't agree, please don't use the site.

2. Who can use The Bare Recipes

You must be at least 13 years old to use The Bare Recipes. If you're under 18, or under the age of majority where you live, you may use it only with a parent or guardian's permission, and they agree to these terms on your behalf. You may not use The Bare Recipes if the law prohibits it, or if we've previously closed your account for breaking these terms.

3. Your account

  • Give a real email address you can access, and keep your details up to date.
  • Keep your password private. If you sign in with Google, Apple or Facebook, keep that account secure too, because it unlocks your account.
  • You're responsible for activity on your account. Tell us right away at the Contact us page if you think someone else has used it.
  • An account is for one person. Don't share it or sell it.

4. What The Bare Recipes does

The Bare Recipes lets you paste the link to a recipe page and get back just the essentials: the photo, ingredients and steps. You can save recipes to your library, sort them into categories, build a grocery list, plan a week of meals, scale servings, and switch between US and metric measurements.

To do this, our server visits the page you link to and reads the recipe details the website publishes. Sometimes it uses an outside page-reading service to do so. Some websites block this, publish incomplete details, or change their pages, so we can't promise every link will work or that every recipe will come through complete.

Check before you cook. Recipe details come from other websites, and scaled amounts, unit conversions and combined grocery quantities are calculated automatically and rounded. They may contain mistakes. Always check ingredients, amounts, temperatures and cooking times against the original recipe, and use your own judgment about food safety, allergies and dietary needs. The Bare Recipes doesn't give medical, nutritional or dietary advice.

5. Free and Premium plans

Free

A free account can save up to 25 recipes and use the basic features. We may change what the free plan includes, and we'll give notice before taking away anything you rely on.

Premium

Premium adds unlimited saved recipes, custom categories, the grocery list, servings scaling, US and metric conversion, and the weekly meal planner. It costs $3.99 a month or $24.99 a year, plus any applicable taxes. The price is always shown before you pay.

  • Automatic renewal. Premium is a subscription. It renews automatically at the end of each month or year, and your payment method is charged the then-current price, until you cancel. By subscribing, you authorize these recurring charges.
  • Cancelling. Cancel anytime from your Account page under "Manage subscription". Premium stays on until the end of the period you've already paid for, and you won't be charged again.
  • Refunds. Payments aren't refundable, and we don't give credits for partial months or years, except where the law requires it. If you think you were charged by mistake, contact us at the Contact us page and we'll look into it.
  • Price changes. If the price changes, we'll tell you in advance, and the new price applies from your next renewal after the notice. You can cancel before then if you don't want to continue.
  • Failed payments. If a renewal payment fails, Stripe will try again for a short period. If it still can't be collected, Premium ends and your account returns to the free plan.
  • Going back to free. If Premium ends, your saved recipes stay in your account. Premium-only tools stop working, and you can't save new recipes beyond the free limit until you're below it or upgrade again.
  • Payment processing. Payments are handled by Stripe and are also subject to Stripe's terms.

6. Recipes from other websites

The recipes, photos and writing you save through The Bare Recipes belong to the websites and creators who published them. The Bare Recipes only shows them to you for your personal, non-commercial use, such as cooking, planning meals and keeping track of recipes you like, and always links back to the original page.

You agree not to use The Bare Recipes to copy, republish, sell or share other people's recipes or photos in a way that infringes their rights. Please support the cooks whose recipes you enjoy by visiting their websites.

For recipe creators and copyright owners. If you believe The Bare Recipes is being used in a way that infringes your copyright, contact us at the Contact us page with: the work you believe is infringed, the link or recipe involved, your contact details, a statement that you believe in good faith the use isn't authorized, and a statement, under penalty of perjury, that your notice is accurate and you're the owner or authorized to act for the owner. We'll respond promptly, and we close the accounts of people who repeatedly infringe.

7. Your content

The things you add yourself, such as category names, grocery items and meal plans, are yours. You give us permission to store, copy and display them only as needed to run The Bare Recipes for you. That permission ends when you delete them or your account, except for copies in routine backups until they're overwritten.

8. Rules for using The Bare Recipes

When using The Bare Recipes, you agree not to:

  • break any law, or use the service to infringe anyone else's rights;
  • use bots, scripts or other automated tools to fetch pages, create accounts or use the service in bulk, or try to get around rate limits, the free-plan limit or Premium;
  • use The Bare Recipes to reach pages that aren't public, or to attack, overload or probe any website or network, including ours;
  • copy, resell or build a competing product from The Bare Recipes, or offer it to others as a service;
  • try to access other people's accounts or data, or interfere with the security of the service;
  • reverse engineer the service, except where the law allows it;
  • pretend to be someone else, or give false information when signing up.

9. Our rights in The Bare Recipes

The Bare Recipes, including its design, software, name and logo, belongs to The Bare Recipes and is protected by law. These terms let you use it as intended; they don't give you any other rights in it. If you send us ideas or feedback, we can use them without owing you anything.

10. Services from other companies

The Bare Recipes relies on other companies, including Google, Apple and Facebook for sign-in, Stripe for payments, and our web host. Your use of those services is also governed by their own terms. We aren't responsible for them, or for the recipe websites you link to.

11. Ending your use

You can stop using The Bare Recipes at any time and delete your account from the Account page. Deleting your account erases your saved recipes and cancels any Premium subscription immediately, without a refund for the unused time.

We may suspend or close your account if you break these terms, if we need to for legal reasons, or to protect other users or the service. When we can, we'll tell you first and give you a chance to fix the problem. If we shut down The Bare Recipes completely, we'll give reasonable notice and refund the unused part of any prepaid Premium subscription.

The sections on recipes from other websites, our rights, disclaimers, limits on liability, indemnity and disputes still apply after your account ends.

12. Disclaimers

The Bare Recipes is provided "as is" and "as available". To the fullest extent the law allows, we make no warranties of any kind, express or implied, including warranties of merchantability, fitness for a particular purpose, accuracy and non-infringement. We don't promise that the service will always be available, error-free or secure, that any link will work, or that recipe details, conversions, scaled amounts or grocery lists will be accurate or complete. You are responsible for how you prepare and cook food.

Some places don't allow certain warranties to be excluded, so some of the above may not apply to you.

13. Limits on our liability

To the fullest extent the law allows, The Bare Recipes won't be liable for any indirect, incidental, special, consequential or punitive damages, or for any loss of data, profits or goodwill, arising from your use of The Bare Recipes, even if we were told such damages were possible. Our total liability for any claim about The Bare Recipes is limited to the greater of the amount you paid us in the 12 months before the claim, or $50.

These limits don't apply where the law doesn't allow them, such as liability for gross negligence or intentional wrongdoing in some places.

14. Indemnity

If someone brings a claim against us because of how you used The Bare Recipes or because you broke these terms, you agree to cover our reasonable costs, including legal fees, to the extent the law allows.

15. Disputes and governing law

If you have a problem with The Bare Recipes, please contact us first at the Contact us page. Most issues can be sorted out quickly, and we'll try in good faith to resolve it within 30 days before either of us goes to court.

These terms are governed by the laws of the United States and of the state where The Bare Recipes is based, without regard to conflict-of-law rules. Any lawsuit about these terms or The Bare Recipes must be brought in the state or federal courts located in that state, and you and we agree to those courts' jurisdiction.

If you live in a country whose consumer laws give you rights these terms can't override, nothing here takes those rights away.

16. Changes to these terms

We may update these terms from time to time. We'll change the "Last updated" date above and, for significant changes, let you know by email or with a notice on the site before they take effect. If you keep using The Bare Recipes after changes take effect, you accept the updated terms. If you don't agree, you can cancel and delete your account.

17. General

These terms and our Privacy Policy are the whole agreement between you and us about The Bare Recipes. If any part is found unenforceable, the rest still applies. If we don't enforce a part right away, we haven't given up the right to enforce it later. You can't transfer these terms to anyone else without our permission; we may transfer them if The Bare Recipes is sold or reorganized.
